this is such great news! DK has been such a stick in the mud for the longest time about fur! It is so refreshing and inspiring to hear that the pressure from PETA and its supporters has paid off yet once again!!! Yeah!
Fur, is in my opinion, one of the saddest excuses to end another non-human being's life that I can think of!
Anyone who is still wearing fur, or buying fur products, including fur trims on clothing, fur accessories, or otherwise, is in my opinion, purchasing and wearing these products ignorantly.
In my opinion, it should be a pre-requesit, for anyone interested in buying fur products of any kind, that the potential buyer be obliged to inform themselves(which pretty much would be a great general rule of thumb for anything you buy!!)about the product they desire. In the particular case of fur, this small tutorial might include learning about the origins of the product at hand, where it came from, what animal/s was/were used to produce the end-product (since many people are not aware that they are wearing dog, or cat!!!!), watching a film from the respective fur farm(pre-dominantly located in China, where the majority of cheap textiles are manufactured today) from which the product originated from, how the animals were/are transtported there, how they live/suffer/are held captive there, and by which atrocious, and inhumane means they are robbed/slaughtered and often skinned alive of their coats to serve the fashion industry.
Fur suits its original owner best, this I know for sure! I have to admit that I cannot fully respect anyone, who after knowing the truth about this horrible industry, actually has NO problem with fur, and can turn the other cheek to this atrocity. Sadly, I have come to learn that all animal abuse has, and always will thrive on public ignorance.
I am always exceptionally excited when a major designer makes the pledge to drop fur. They hold a position of great power as members of the fashion industry, and we all know that famous line; With GREAT power comes GREAT responsibility!
Someone mentioned to me just the other day that they wish that NASA would spend all their time and money on protecting the precious and wildly diverse non-human forms of life we have here right on earth, instead of constantly wasting time and money trying to find LIFE elsewhere…..this is an excellent point!
This example with DK is in my opinion one small step for man(the most intelligent of all species on this beautiful earth of ours, which we are priveleged to be able to share with such a rich diversity of non-human species-a.k.a, our greatest gift), and an even bigger step towards the perhaps utopic goal of a world in which we aknowledge, recognize, and strive to protect animal rights(a.k.a: respect, and preserve that greatest gift for ourselves, and for generations to come), alongside our own! Thanks for posting one small, but strongly significant victory in the battle; the gigantic goal of changing how we as a society think and feel about fur! ;) Thank you DK you rock!! ;)
